Our Mission
The Arvada West Community Organization exists to strengthen the bonds between neighbors and create thriving communities throughout western Arvada. We believe that when neighbors know each other and work together, our entire community becomes safer, more supportive, and more enjoyable for everyone.
Our approach is simple: we bring people together around shared interests and common goals. Whether it's organizing a neighborhood block party, coordinating snow removal assistance for elderly neighbors, or working together on community safety awareness, we focus on practical ways neighbors can support each other.
Our Community Area
We serve the neighborhoods west of and including Allendale, encompassing areas like Ralston Estates, West Woods, Leyden, Northwest Arvada, and many other wonderful communities. This area shares a common identity centered around Arvada West High School and the natural beauty of western Jefferson County.
With over 70 neighborhoods and approximately 55,000 residents, Arvada West represents nearly half of our city's population. Our communities include both established neighborhoods and newer developments, creating a rich diversity of perspectives and experiences that strengthens us all.
Our Approach
Grassroots Organization
We are neighbors organizing with neighbors. Our leadership comes from within the community, and our priorities are set by the people who live here. We work as volunteers committed to making our neighborhoods better places to live.
Collaborative Partnerships
We believe in working together with the City of Arvada, local businesses, schools, and other community organizations. By partnering rather than competing, we can accomplish more for everyone.
Practical Focus
Our programs address real needs that matter to residents: helping with snow removal, organizing block parties, supporting public safety awareness, and connecting neighbors with city resources like neighborhood grants.
Why Community Organization Matters
Research consistently shows that communities with strong social connections are safer, healthier, and more resilient. When neighbors know each other, they're more likely to:
- Look out for each other's homes and families
- Share resources and help during emergencies
- Work together to solve local problems
- Support local businesses and community institutions
- Participate in civic life and democratic processes
In Arvada West, we have the ingredients for exceptionally strong communities: engaged residents, beautiful neighborhoods, excellent schools, and access to natural recreation areas. Our organization helps activate these strengths by providing ways for people to connect and collaborate.
How to Get Involved
There are many ways to participate in building stronger neighborhoods:
- Attend our community meetings to meet neighbors and learn about local issues
- Join a neighborhood initiative like block party organizing or safety awareness
- Volunteer for community events and mutual support programs
- Help with outreach to connect more neighbors to our programs
- Share your skills to support community projects and education
Whether you have five minutes or five hours to give, there's a meaningful way for you to contribute to our shared community life.
